How To Cook Rice : You’re not alone if your rice recipes  becomes mushy or hard. Rice is easy to mess up, but once you’ve mastered the method, it’s also simple to get right. 1. Rinse the rice thoroughly.

I know, rinsing is a pain, but it just takes 20 seconds and removes dusty starches that can cause excessive stickiness. Simply strain the rice through a fine mesh strainer under cold water until the water flows clear.

2. Keep the ratio in mind.

You’ll always use a rice to water ratio of 1 cup rice to 2 cups water for most types of rice, which you can scale up or down. (Be sure to double-check your rice packaging.) To add extra flavour, use chicken or vegetable broth instead of water.

3. Bring the water to a boil in a large pot.

Then add the rice and season with salt. Also, if you want to add a tablespoon of butter, go ahead and do so; your rice will taste 10 times better.

4. Maintain a constant simmer.

The temperature of the water will drop dramatically when you add the rice, and it will stop boiling. Allow it to return to a slow simmer (otherwise you run the risk of your water cooking off faster than your rice gets tender).

5. Do not remove the cover.

Reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan. Keep the lid on, even if it’s tempting! You don’t want to get in the way of the steam. This is vital information!

6. After 18 minutes, double-check.

I always set a timer for 18 minutes when cooking long grain white rice, understanding that it could take additional minute or two. Let the rice, not the water, be your guide. It’s fine if there’s a little water left over! To drain it out, simply tilt the saucepan slightly. (How do you make brown rice? After 15 minutes, double-check.)

7. Don’t bother with it.

Turn off the heat, replace the lid, and let it aside in the steaming saucepan for a few minutes. Patience, my friend, is a virtue.sushi rice

8. Make it fluffy!

Gently mix and lift the rice with a fork to ensure that the short grain rice do not cling together.

The game is a lot easier if you have a rice cooker. Use the same magic ratio and toss everything into the rice cooker, which will take care of everything. The same “leave it alone” and fluffing instructions apply when the machine says it’s ready.
