2022’s 10 best Nonstick Cookware Sets

Best Nonstick Cookware Sets for Every cook’s kitchen, from the most experienced to the most inexperienced, should have at least one nonstick pan. It’s nearly hard to cook eggs without one, and they make pan searing fish and keeping pancakes from splitting apart in the pan much easier.

We cooked 165 eggs, grilled 50 steaks, and more at the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Technology Lab to review more than 35 new cookware brands. On gas and electric ranges, we evaluated how evenly skillets spread heat, how effectively they browned meat, and how well saucepans maintained a consistent boil and avoided scorching sauce.

We looked at how successfully nonstick surfaces released eggs and pancakes, as well as how simple they were to clean afterwards. Finally, we examined how simple each piece of cookware was to use, including if the handles got hot to the touch and whether each piece could be used in the oven and/or dishwasher.

Our top nonstick pans were those that could do it all, from scrambling an egg without using any oil to scorching a steak while remaining easy to clean. Our favourite nonstick pans are listed below, including tried-and-true faves, editor favourites, and new releases with unique features that make cooking a breeze. Our recommendations for the finest nonstick pans in 2021 are as follows:

Is nonstick cookware safe?

Traditional nonstick pans have a poor rep since many are produced with Teflon (also known as PTFE), which emits chemicals into the air at high temperatures that have been linked to cancer. Many nonstick pans today are produced without PTFE, but nonstick cookware is safe in any case, according to Robert L. Wolke, Ph.D., a chemistry professor emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh and author of What Einstein Told His Cook: Kitchen Science. As long as you use them properly and don’t overheat them, as explained. When is it too hot? At 500 degrees Fahrenheit, PTFE begins to breakdown, and at 660 degrees Fahrenheit, it begins to deteriorate severely, therefore use your nonstick pans on a medium or moderate burner.

Tips for using nonstick cookware

  • Never heat an empty pan since it will heat up considerably faster and reach 500oF much faster.
  • To cook with nonstick, use medium or low heat, but follow the manufacturer’s directions for the ideal temperature.
  • You won’t require as much oil as you would in a stainless steel pan since the pan will be coated.
  • Unless your instruction manual specifically states otherwise, avoid using metal utensils that might harm the nonstick coating.
  • Avoid placing nonstick cookware in the washes; the coating will wear faster.

Scrambled eggs and pancakes cooked evenly and without sticking in our testing. Aside from that, the griddle was a wonderful addition for breakfast foods, particularly bacon. These pieces clean up wonderfully whether hand-washed or in the dishwasher, owing to their dark nonstick surface on the inside and exterior.

Nonstick skillets are used by even expert chefs to prepare difficult things like eggs and seafood. From looking at their product range, which consists of only skillets and one wok, it’s clear that HexClad understands this. They’re meant to endure high heat, unlike typical nonstick pans, in order to get a nice sear. They may also be baked at 500 degrees Fahrenheit and used with metal tools.

We frequently fried crispy eggs in olive oil on our 8-inch pan. We also use it to produce buttery, fluffy scrambled eggs. HexClad pans have a trademarked hexagon pattern that is laser engraved on the interior and outside. Because of the stainless steel base and aluminium middle layer, this layer provides nonstick properties while yet allowing the pan to become very hot and cook evenly. The exterior design helps to minimise discoloration and makes cleanup easier. Teflon is not used in Hex Clad pans.

What to consider when shopping for nonstick cookware sets

✔️ Number of pieces:Think about how many pots and pans you’ll need. We recommend an 8-inch fry pan for quick, short chores like eggs and pancakes; a 10-inch fry pan for larger meals or for larger families; a stock pot for pasta and batch sauces and soup; and a small sauce pan for quick, easy activities, deep enough to boil an egg, suitable for reheating and simmering.

✔️ Weight and size:You want a mid-weight cookware set – light cookware is too fragile and heats up too rapidly, so make sure the pots and pans have some weight. Cookware with a heavier weight allows for a better sear, but it might be harder to lift. We like sets that nest nicely within each other for convenient, efficient storage, but you might wish to line them with towels to avoid scratching.

✔️ Handles: It’s crucial to consider how cookware feels in your hands: When you’re cooking, you want to feel at ease and in command. Some include silicone-wrapped handles, which are more pleasant in the hand and keep cooler to the touch than metal handles. Look for assistance handles (an extra handle on the opposite side of the primary one) to make movement easier. They’re useful for lifting and creating extra balance.

✔️ Dishwasher- and oven-safety:Dishwasher-safe cookware saves you time and effort since you don’t have to clean it before putting it in the dishwasher. Keep in mind that hard anodized metal can withstand several washes, but other coatings may fade more quickly. Oven safety comes in handy for a variety of recipes since it lets you to transfer your cookware from the cooktop to the oven to complete or keep warm.
